Grevers Wins Silver in 100 Back at World Championships

BUDAPEST — Former Northwestern men's swimmer Matt Grevers won silver in the 100 meter backstroke Tuesday at the 2017 FINA World Championships.
Grevers finished the race in a time of 52.48, just 0.04 off of gold medalist Jiayu Xu of China. USA teammate Ryan Murphy placed third.
With four Olympic gold medals in his career, Grevers missed qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio last summer. The Lake Forest, Illinois, native rebounded by winning gold in the 100 meter backstroke at the World Championship Trials in June to qualify for the United States team at the World Championships.
By placing second in today's 100 meter backstroke race, Grevers has claimed a medal at three consecutive FINA World Championships.
