Wilimovsky Aims to Defend Open Water World Title

BUDAPEST, Hungary — The reigning 10k open water world champion and Northwestern alumnus Jordan Wilimovsky aims to defend his title at the 2017 FINA World Championships on Tuesday, July 18. The event takes place in Budapest's Lake Balaton at 3 a.m. CT.
Wilimovsky took gold in the men's 2015 10k open water event by finishing 12 seconds ahead of the runner-up, the largest margin of victory in the event's history. The win qualified the Malibu, California, native for the 2016 Olympic Games, where he placed fifth overall.
On May 19, Wilimovsky won the U.S. open water national title by 52 seconds to qualify for the world championships.
