Northwestern Draws Georgia Tech in Big Ten/ACC Challenge

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech as part of the 2017 Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The matchups were announced Thursday by ESPN.
Tip times and television distributions will be announced at a later date.
The matchup will be the fourth between the Wildcats and the Yellow Jackets. Each of the three previous meetings have been played as part of the Challenge with NU holding a 2-1 series lead. Northwestern won the only previous matchup between the teams in Atlanta, posting a 76-60 win on Nov. 29, 2011.
Georgia Tech posted a 21-16 record a year ago, including an 8-10 mark in ACC play. The Yellow Jackets reached the championship game of the National Invitation Tournament before falling to TCU.
Northwestern is set to return its top five leading scorers from a year ago off a team that notched a school-record 24 wins, including 12 against Big Ten foes, while advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
NU is 8-10 in its first 18 Challenge matchups, including a 65-58 home win over Wake Forest last season. The Wildcats won four consecutive contests in the event from 2008-11.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 14 games of the event, matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioner's Cup. All games will also be available to stream via the ESPN app.
The ACC took home the Commissioner's Cup with nine wins in the 2016 Challenge. The Big Ten won eight of the 14 matchups in 2014 and 2015, and 2012 and 2013 were both ties. Since its inception, the ACC has won 11 Challenges, while the Big Ten has won five.
