EVANSTON, Ill. — The Northwestern lacrosse team will begin postseason play as the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament Friday night when it takes on No. 2-seed Penn State in the second semifinal matchup Friday night.
The Wildats and Nittany Lions met on Apr. 13 at Lanny and Sharon Martin where Chicago's Big Ten Team dropped a one-goal affair. The winner of Friday's night's semifinal will take on the winner of the first semifinal matchup between No. 1-seed Maryland and No. 4-seed Johns Hopkins.
The 2017 Big Ten Tournament is being hosted by Maryland in College Park. All three games of the tournament will air live nationally on the Big Ten Network.
TRIO OF 'CATS EARN ALL-BIG TEN HONORS
Seniors Christina Esposito and Catie Ingrilli and sophomore Claire Quinn were named to the 20-member All-Big Ten Team Wednesday as voted by the league's coaches. Each of the Wildcats earned the first distinction of their career.
ESPOSITO LEADS THE ATTACK
Esposito leads the Wildcats with 41 goals and 51 points through 17 games. She ranks sixth in the league in goals per game (2.35), ninth in points per game (3.00) and is fourth with three game-winning goals. A team co-captain, she scored in 16-of-17 games, recording eight games with three or more goals and 14 multi-point games overall.
IN(GRILLI) THE MIDDLE
Ingrilli burst onto the scene in her senior campaign with career highs in nearly every statistical category, including goals (24), assists (8), points (32), shots (62), free-position goals (15), ground balls (28) and caused turnovers (13). She rode a 16-game point streak to start the season and with Esposito is one of just two players to record a point in at least 16 contests thus far. Her 15 free-position goals this season are tied for the third most in NU single-season history as she ranks fourth in the league with 0.88 per game.
A CAUSE FOR CLARE
Quinn has been arguably one of the best defenders in the league in her sophomore season. She led all Big Ten players in caused turnovers (31) and caused turnovers per game (1.82) and led all defenders in ground balls (40) and ground balls per game (2.35). The Long Island native tied the second-best mark in program history with six caused turnovers in a win over Johns Hopkins on March 30, tying for the league high during the regular season. She has caused at least two turnovers 10 times and picked up at least two ground balls in 13 games heading into tournament play.
FREDERICKS SETS PROGRAM MARK
Junior Shelby Fredericks set a program record with 17 draw controls versus Penn State on April 13. She leads all Big Ten players and ranks third nationally with 8.13 draw controls per contests as the only player in the league with more than 100 draw controls this season.

Fredericks recorded her fifth multi-assist game of the season versus Maryland on April 27. She leads the Wildcats with 20 assists this season and ranks 10th in program history with 53.
HEY, LEFTY
Junior attack Nicole Beardsley had just 10 points in her first 24 career games, but has stepped up her game over the Wildcats' last five contests. Beardsley has scored two goals in three straight, including a career-high four goals versus No. 1 Maryland on April 27. She has recorded 12 points during her five-game point streak entering tournament play.
