Wilimovsky Wins 10K U.S. Open Water National Championship

CASTAIC LAKE, California – Former Northwestern University swimmer Jordan Wilimovsky won the men's 10-kilometer at the United States Open Water National Championship this weekend in Castaic Lake, California.
The 2015 world champion and 2016 Olympian finished the 10K in 1:57:45.61 for his second career national 10k title. Wilimovsky qualified for Team USA for the third time in his career ahead of the World Championships, which will take place in Budapest this July.
"It was a fun race. It was a little cold at the beginning, but I just tried to stay relaxed and swim within the pack the first couple of laps and then build into it and be quick the last two laps and into the finish," Wilimovsky said to USA Swimming after the race.
"I was confident in my pace and that I would be able to finish pretty strong and pull away at the end. I'm just excited to make the team again – make Team USA – and I'll get back in the pool Monday full training and put in some solid work before Budapest."
The next closest finisher to Wilimovsky was Brendan Casey, from Virginia, who finished almost 50 seconds later with a time of 1:58.37.38. Casey will join Wilimovsky on Team USA this summer.
Wilimovsky will look to repeat his title performance from the 2015 Open Water World Championships. He swam a 1:49:48.2 in Kazan, Russia to win the men's 10K by 12 seconds, the largest margin of victory in the event's history.
