EVANSTON, Ill. —The Northwestern lacrosse team earned an at-large bid to its 14th-straight NCAA Tournament and will take on Albany in the first round on Friday night at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, New York.

The Wildcats finished as the Big Ten Tournament runner up and enter the tournament with a 10-9 record overall, while the Great Danes were also runner up in their conference tournament and hold a 12-5 mark. The two teams only previous meeting came in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NCAA Tournament where the Wildcats' claimed an 18-4 victory in Evanston, Illinois. 

SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES
UAlbany is making its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2015. THe Great Danes finished runner up in the America East conference tournament after falling to Stony Brook, 14-12. They had won seven-straight games prior to the championship loss. 

Senior Sarah Martin is one of 25 nominees for the 2017 Tewaaraton Trophy. Martin is second in the country with 6.24 points per game, ninth with 3.59 goals per game and ninth with 2.65 assists per game. She also ranks 12th in the country with 5.71 draw controls per contest. The senior midfielder has tallied 106 points (61g/45a), 34 ground balls and 97 draw controls. 

CIRCLE OF DOMINATION
Junior Shelby Fredericks is on the cusp of setting a new NU single-season record for draw controls. Fredericks is third in the country with 8.22 draw controls per game and has totaled 148, just 15 shy of Alyssa Leonard's program record set in 2014. The Long Island native has four double-digit draw control performances this season, including a single-game record 17 versus Penn State on April 13. 

SHELBY LIKES TO SHARE TOO
Fredericks also leads the Wildcats with 21 assists this season and is 10th in program history with 54. She has five games this season with at least a pair of assists. 

A CAUSE FOR CLAIRE
Sophomore defender Claire Quinn leads the Big Ten and ranks 37th in the country with 1.79 caused turnovers per game. Quinn earned All-Big Ten honors for the first time in program history and enters the NCAA Tournament with 34 caused turnovers, the sixth-best mark in program history. She tied the second-best mark in a single game with six caused turnovers versus Johns Hopkins on March 30 and has caused at least two turnovers in 11 games. 

CHASING THE CENTURY MARK
Senior co-captain Christina Esposito needs just two goals to become the 16th player in program history to score 100 career goals. Esposito leads Northwestern with 44 goals and a career-high 57 points this season. She earned All-Big Ten honors and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team after leading the 'Cats with six points in the two games. 

HEY, LEFTY!
Junior attack Nicole Beardsley has been one of the Wildcats' most prolific scorers since entering the starting lineup six games ago. She has scored a team-high 13 goals during the six-game stretch and is second with 32 shots. Beardsley had just eight points in 23 career games prior to entering the starting lineup, but has responded with a goal in each of the last six games and five-straight multi-goal games.
