EVANSTON, Ill. — The 15th-ranked Northwestern lacrosse team head east Saturday to take on Rutgers in a Big Ten affair on 10 a.m. on the Big Ten Network. The Wildcats enter the contest needing just one win to secure a spot in the Big Ten Tournament and eligibility for the NCAA Tournament.
A win over the Scarlet Knights (8-6, 2-2 Big Ten) would lock up one of the four spots in the Big Ten Tournament at Maryland May 5-7. The 'Cats can still claim at least a share of the regular season title with wins over Rutgers and Maryland in their last two games.
Mike Wolf will handle play-by-play responsibilities for the Big Ten Network broadcast, while Sheehan Stanwick-Burch will provide color commentary.
FREDERICKS SETS NEW PROGRAM MARK
Junior Shelby Fredericks set a new Northwestern single-game record with a career-high 17 draw controls versus Penn State on April 13. Fredericks dominated the circle to finish with double-digit draws for the third time this season. She added eight more draw controls versus Duke, becoming just the second player in program history with 300-plus draws. The Babylon, New York, native leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth in the country with 7.93 draw controls per game.
RESPECT YOUR ELDER
Sophomore Liza Elder has become one of the Wildcats' most dangerous threats on attack over her last nine games. All 17 of Elder's points have come during the stretch, including a streak of six-straight games entering Saturday in which she has recorded at least one point. Elder has 13 points during the six-game point streak, has matched her career high with three point in each of the last two games and has recorded three-straight multi-point contests.
SHELBY LOVES TO SHARE
Junior Shelby Fredericks leads the Wildcats with 18 assists, nine of which have come in the last five games. Fredericks set a career-high with four assists versus Marquette on March 11 and has dished out at least three assists four times this year. She ranks 10th in program history with 48 career assists.
INGRILLI IN A GROOVE
Senior midfielder Catie Ingrilli has recorded at least one point in all 15 games this season. Ingrilli has nine multi-point games, including a pair of contests versus Louisville on March 26 and at Ohio State on April 6 in which she had a career-high four points. She has matched her career high with two goals on seven different occassions this season.
SERIES HISTORY
Northwestern and Rutgers will meet for the 10th time in program history on Saturday with the Wildcats look to remain unbeaten in the series. The 'Cats hold a 9-0 mark and have outscored the Scarlet Knights, 156-38. Last season, NU scored a season-high 20 goals in a 20-9 victory at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium.
A CAUSE FOR CLAIRE
Sophomore defender Claire Quinn leads the Big Ten with in caused turnovers (26) and caused turnovers per game (1.73), while ranking third in the league in ground balls (36) and ground balls per game (2.40). She has caused at least two turnovers in eight games this season and tied the second-best mark in program history with six at Ohio State on April 6. Quinn needs just two caused turnovers to crack the NU single-season top 10 and is also just nine ground balls from making the list as well.
