Northwestern Remains Unbeaten in B1G Play With 6-1 Win at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 40 Northwestern ran its Big Ten record to 5-0 with a convincing 6-1 win at Iowa on Sunday.
The victory allows the Wildcats to remain in a tie first first place in the league standings alongside both Michigan and Ohio State.
Sunday's match began outdoors but featured a rain delay before the contest eventually moved indoors due to inclement weather.
Northwestern (9-8, 5-0 B1G) jumped in front by claiming the doubles points. The No. 1 team of Maddie Lipp and Rheeya Doshi posted a 6-1 win before the No. 2 duo of Erin Larner and Brooke Rischbieth earned a 6-2 victory.
In singles play, NU won the first set in each of the five matches that started on the courts. Larner completed her impressive weekend by taking down Elise Van Heuvelen 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot, putting the 'Cats up 2-0 in the match.
A 6-0, 6-3 win by Lee Or at No. 4 increased Northwestern's advantage to 3-0 and the Wildcats were closing in on clinching the match when weather forced the action indoors.
Alex Chatt eventually had the honor of clinching things for NU by dominating the third set, winning 6-2, 6-7, 6-0 at No. 5. Doshi also added a three-set victory – 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 – at No. 3 before Iowa got on the board with a three-set win by Zoe Douglas at No. 2.
Jillian Rooney closed out the day by winning at third-set superbreaker at No. 6, notching a comeback 5-7, 7-5, 10-3 triumph.
Northwestern returns to action 11 a.m. Central time Saturday when it travels to Purdue.
