Northwestern Tops Purdue 5-0 For Fifth Straight Win

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- No. 34 Northwestern ran its winning streak to five and improved to 6-0 in Big Ten play with a 5-0 victory over Purdue Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats (10-8, 6-0 B1G) were dominant in rolling to the doubles point. Rheeya Doshi and Erin Larner cruised at No. 2, taking down Deborah Suarez and Marta Ruedas, 6-0, before the 14th-ranked team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp took down the 51st-ranked team of Andjela Djokovic and Rafaella Baquerizo, 6-2, to put NU up 1-0 in the match.
Northwestern kept the momentum going into singles play where it captured the first set in all six matches. Jillian Rooney defeated Caitlin Calkins 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 6 before a 7-5, 6-3 victory by Larner at No. 1 over Djokovic brought the visitors within one point of clinching the match.
Chatt clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ruedas at No. 5 before Lipp closed things out with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Alex Sabe at No. 2.
Northwestern returns to action at Indiana at 10 a.m. Central time Sunday.
