EVANSTON, Ill. – Senior Anna Petersen has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week following her performance over the weekend in a series victory against Maryland.

The award is the first of Petersen's career and the second of the season for the Wildcats. Junior Sabrina Rabin won the honor last month after a strong tournament at the Judi Garman Classic.

Against Maryland, Petersen batted .750 and slugged 1.750 with two doubles, two home runs and eight total RBIs in the series for the Wildcats.

In the first contest of a Saturday doubleheader, Petersen finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a sacrifice fly as the warm-up act to the weekend. In game two, she staked Northwestern with a 3-0 lead with a massive three-run home as part of a two-hit game.

In the series finale, Petersen finished a triple short of the cycle during a 3-for-3 performance with a walk. She drove in NU's first run with a first-inning RBI double, then with NU trailing 5-1, she clubbed a two-run home run. Later, she was involved in two bases-loaded rallies with a walk and a single.

Northwestern is back in action at 4 p.m. CT Wednesday, April 12, at Loyola (Chicago) in Rogers Park. NU then travels to No. 7 Minnesota for a weekend series with the Gophers.
