EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern will open conference play on Thursday inside the Big House when it takes on Michigan at 3:30 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network. The Wildcats enter conference play with a 3-5 record overall against the No. 1 ranked strength of schedule in the country. The 'Cats have played five top-10 opponents this season.
NU owns a 5-0 record in the all-time series, outscoring the Wolverines 90-32. Last season, Chicago's Big Ten Team claimed a pair of wins over U of M, including a 20-5 victory in the Big Ten Tournament at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium.
STROUP THERE IT IS
Senior Danita Stroup has been an instrumental weapon on the Wildcats' attack this season. Stroup has scored in seven-of-eight contests and has eight goals over her last three games. She has recorded three-straight multi-goal games for the second time in her career, including a career-high three in each of the last two games. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, native is second on the team with 12 goals.
INGRILLI SETS A NEW CAREER HIGH
Senior midfielder Catie Ingrill has already registered a new career high with 11 goal this season, surpassing her previous high of 10 set as a junior. Ingrilli has scored in all eight games - a career-long streak - and has matched her single-game high with a pair of goals on three separate occasions.
GO, GO ESPO
Senior co-captain Christina Esposito enters Big Ten play on a career-long 24-game point streak dating back to last season. Esposito leads the Wildcats in goals (24), points (29), shots on goal (41), game-winning goals (2), free-position goals (8) and is tied for the team lead with nine caused turnovers. The Long Island native had a career-high six goals and seven points in a win over Marquette on March 11 and has been limited to a single point in just one game (at Stony Brook on March 5.)
BRICK WALL
Sophomore Mallory Weisse continues to be one of the top goalkeepers in the Big Ten. She has recorded double-digit saves in five games this season, including a career-high 13 versus Syracuse on March 3. Weisse had four-straight games with 10-plus saves from Feb. 18 to March 11 and enters Thursday contest third in the league with 9.25 saves per game.
FREDERICKS MATCHES PROGRAM RECORD
Junior Shelby Fredericks matched the Northwestern single-game record with a career-high 15 draw controls at No. 2 North Carolina on March 19. Fredericks is already third in program history with 244 career draw controls, just 24 behind Kristen Kjellman for second all time. She enters Thursday's game ranked fourth in the country and tops in the Big Ten with 7.00 draw controls per game.
