Wildcats Finish SDSU March Mayhem With Win Over Hosts

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Northwestern wrapped up the 2017 San Diego State March Mayhem match play competition with a win over the host Aztecs on Wedensday afternoon at The Farms (Par-72, 6,211-yards).
SDSU MARCH MAYHEM – FINAL RESULTS
The scheduled three-day event was condensed into four matches over two days due to anticipated weather on Wednesday in Rancho Santa Fe. The No. 14 Wildcats opened the competition on Monday morning with a win over the University of San Francisco before dropping hard-fought matchups against Pepperdine on Monday afternoon, and Arizona on Tuesday morning and finishing with a win over SDSU.
Janet Mao was superb over the two days in Southern California. The sophomore picked up a 3&2 win in the opener against USF, held a three-hole lead in a second-round match stopped-in-progress, earned a second 3&2 win in the third round, and won her final hole in the fourth round to square her match and secure a victory for the Wildcats.
Junior Hannah Kim played her best golf of the competition in Tuesday's final match against San Diego State. The two-time Big Ten Player of the Year dropped two of her first four holes against the Aztecs Sirene Blair, but won five of her final nine to lock up a dominant 4&3 win.

Along with the No. 14 Wildcats, the elite field featured seven additional schools ranked in the latest Golfstat top 40, including No. 2 USC, No. 17 Arizona, No. 28 San Diego State, No. 29 California, No. 31 Brigham Young, No. 38 Pepperdine and No. 39 UNLV, while Fresno State, Idaho, Iowa, New Mexico, Old Dominion, San Francisco, Washington State and Yale round out the list of competing squads.
