Lau Leads 'Cats To Match Play Doubleheader Split At Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 14 Wildcats and No. 10 Duke Blue Devils women's golf teams came together on Sunday, April 2 for a doubleheader match play at the Duke University Golf Club.
The competition between two of the nation's top programs was arranged as preparation for the match play format that decides the NCAA Championship, hosted this year at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, west of Chicago. The women's championship will be held May 18-24, 2017, followed by the men's finals May 25-31.
Northwestern dropped the morning match, but head coach Emily Fletcher's Wildcats bounced back in the afternoon for a 4-2 victory over the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Stephanie Lau was a stalwart for the 'Cats during the day, knocking off reigning NCAA individual champion Virginia Elena Cartz 4&3 in the morning, and earning a hard-fought 2&1 victory over 2016 Olympian Leona Maguire.
Junior Hannah Kim and senior Kacie Komoto also chalked up victories in the afternoon session, with the former knocking off Carta 3&1, and Komoto taking down Anan Belac by an identical score.
The Wildcats will return to stroke-play competition this weekend in northern California, teeing off the Silverado Showdown at Silverado Country Club in Napa.
