EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern's season-long 12-game homestand continues tomorrow Tuesday, March 21 when the Wildcats host UIC at Miller Park. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT.
Northwestern (5-13) dropped a four-game series to Central Michigan over the weekend, only taking one game from the Chippewas. Senior Jake Schieber tallied a team-high six hits on the weekend, hitting .429 with three runs scored and an RBI. Both Jack Dunn and Alex Erro tallied five hits against CMU, while Dunn posted five RBIs.
Senior Josh Davis was the highlight of the pitching staff over the weekend. The #B1GCats right-hander recorded the first quality start of this Northwestern career when he went six-scoreless innings and held Central Michigan to just three hits in the Wildcats' 5-1 win on Saturday.
UIC (10-6) enters the mid-week match up riding a six-game winning streak. The Flames opened up conference play over the weekend and swept Youngstown State in Horizon League action. UIC is hitting .263 as a team this season and is led by David Cronin, who is batting .371 with a team-best 23 hits.
UIC will start freshman Jacob Key (2-0, 2.08 ERA) on the mound. Northwestern faced key on March 7 when the two teams met and Key went six innings, only allowing two runs, in the Flames' 9-2 (F/7) win over the 'Cats.
Freshman Alex Erro has made an immediate impact in his first season. The Miami, Florida, native leads the Wildcats at the plate with a .373 batting average and has a team-best 25 hits and two home runs. Erro is in the midst of a 15-game hitting streak.
This will be the second of three meetings between the Wildcats and Flames this season. The final game is set for April 4 at UIC.
