Northwestern Drops Midweek Clash with UIC

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern dropped a mid-week contest to UIC, 7-1, Tuesday afternoon at Miller Park.
Matt Hopfner and Charlie Maxwell led the way offensively with a pair of hits, while Alex Erro's single in the contest extended his hit streak to 16 games.
The Flames started strong with two runs in the first inning, but were silenced by the Wildcats over the course of the next five innings.
Noah Masa pitched 3.2 innings of relief and held Northwestern to one hit. He was credited with the win.
Cooper Wetherbee locked in after the first inning had a career-high five strikeouts in four innings pitched, allowing only five hits and striking out two batters back-to-back in the fourth. He was credited with the loss.
Northwestern had at least two base runners in each of the first four innings, and was finally able to score in the fourth when freshman catcher Nick Paciorek contributed an RBI that sent Bourbon home. To get into scoring position, Bourbon hit a single to center field and advanced to third on another single from Charlie Maxwell.
Right-handed pitcher Danny Katz fanned three batters in 2.1 innings of relief, while only allowing one hit.
Northwestern will return to action on Friday, March 24 when it opens Big Ten play against Indiana. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT at Miller Park.
