EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will look to gain ground in the Big Ten standings with the regular season finale at Purdue on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. CT.
The Wildcats (19-9, 8-7) sit one game back of the Boilermakers (18-11, 9-6) in the conference standings. Northwestern is currently seventh but sits just a game back of a three-way tie for fourth place.
Both teams are jockeying for position for the Big Ten Tournament, which begins Wednesday at Banker's Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.
The game from Mackey Arena will be televised live on Big Ten Network. WNUR Sports will have the call on radio, and live stats will be available courtesy of Purdue.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday marks the 68th all-time meeting between Northwestern and Purdue. The Boilermakers lead the series, 46-21, but Northwestern has won three of the last five, dating back to the 2014 season. Purdue holds a 25-8 edge in West Lafayette, but the Wildcats won the most recent meeting at Mackey Arena, a 73-65 victory in overtime on Feb. 11, 2015. That ended a 15-game losing streak for the 'Cats on the road against Purdue. Northwestern won the first matchup this season, 76-60, in Evanston, on New Year's Eve.
A REMARKABLE CLASS
Northwestern seniors Nia Coffey, Ashley Deary, Lauren Douglas, Christen Inman and Allie Tuttle have presided over a complete transformation of the women's basketball program. The senior class has accounted for 77 wins together, the most since the 1993 class had 82 over its four years. The group led Northwestern to the NCAA tournament in 2014, the first appearance for the program since 1997. Coffey, Deary, Douglas and Inman are all in the 1,000 point club, and Coffey and Deary have cemented their names in the program's record book.
GRAND THEFT ASHLEY
Ashley Deary broke the Big Ten's all-time steals record on Jan. 3 against Ohio State with career steal No. 373 early in the first quarter. She now stands at 418 for her career and owns the top three NU single-season steals records, career record and Big Ten single season record, along with the Big Ten career record. She broke a 16-year-old record previously held by Michigan's Stacey Thomas. Deary is also the nation's current active career steals leader at 418 and leads the category by 73. She ranks third in the country this season and first in the Big Ten in steals per game with 3.82.
