Wildcats Drop Regular Season Finale at the Buzzer

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – With the clock reading 0.0, Andreona Keys' layup went through the basket to give Purdue a 61-59 win over Northwestern at Mackey Arena in the regular season finale.
The officials reviewed the shot for several moments before it was deemed good, leaving Keys' fingertips a millisecond before the backboard lit up in red.
Northwestern led 59-55 with 1:23 to go, but the Boilermakers were able to score the final six points to come back and get the narrow victory.
The Wildcats will be the No. 9 seed in next week's Big Ten Tournament and face eight-seed Iowa in the second round Thursday at noon.
Senior Lauren Douglas led the way with a season high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting. She knocked down a pair of threes and was 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Douglas also had five rebounds, four blocks and two assists.
Fellow senior Nia Coffey scored 19 for her fifth straight game in double figures. She also had six rebounds and three steals. Ashley Deary ended her regular season in typical fashion with seven assists, six rebounds and five steals.
The Wildcats got down 16-5 in the early going of the first quarter but roared back with a 9-1 run of their own in the closing minutes of the frame to bring the score to 17-14. The Boilermakers opened things up a little bit in the second, taking a 33-25 lead into the locker room at the break after a four-minute scoreless stretch for the 'Cats.
Amber Jamison led the way for NU with eight points in the first 20 minutes.
Purdue continued to hold onto its lead, eventually building it up to 45-34 before Northwestern started to score in bunches. The Wildcats went on a 15-0 run to take a 49-45 lead, led at one point by seven straight from Coffey.
The 'Cats outscored the Boilermakers 34-28 in the second half.
The Big Ten Tournament begins Wednesday with first round action from Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.
