EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern wraps up the road portion of its Big Ten season Saturday when it travels to Assembly Hall in Bloomington to face Indiana. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. Central.
Northwestern (20-8, 9-6 Big Ten) comes into Saturday's contest looking to set the school record for victories in a season. The Wildcats have won 20 games four times, including a school-record 20 in the regular season each of the last two years. Including postseason victories, NU also won 20 games in 2009-10 and again in 2010-11. A victory on Saturday would give Northwestern six Big Ten road wins this season which would match the school single-season record. The 'Cats also notched six league wins away from Evanston during the 1930-31 campaign when they won the conference title.
Bryant McIntosh has been on a tear for the Wildcats lately. Over the last 10 games, the junior guard is averaging 17.8 points and 5.8 assists per contest. He is 10 assists shy of matching Michael Thompson (2008-11) for the NU career assists record of 528. His 518 assists are the most of any non-senior in the nation.
The Wildcats won this season's first meeting with the Hoosiers, 68-55, Jan. 29 in Evanston behind a 21-point, 8-assist performance from McIntosh, a native of Greenburg, Indiana. Northwestern held Indiana to a season-low point total in the contest.
Northwestern leads the Big Ten in opponents' field goal percentage (.395) while Indiana is first in team field goal percentage (.486).
Northwestern has won nine of its last 15 meetings with Indiana going back to the 2008-09 season. The Wildcats didn't record a win at Assembly Hall until the 2008-09 season, but Northwestern now has split its last six meetings with Indiana in Bloomington.
Scouting Indiana
The Hoosiers (15-13, 5-10) suffered a 96-90 overtime loss at Iowa on Tuesday. Robert Johnson led Indiana with 19 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. James Blackmon contributed 18 points and Thomas Bryant added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Blackmon paces the team and ranks fifth in the Big Ten with an average of 17.0 points per game. IU leads the league with an average of 81.5 points per game and a .486 field goal percentage.
