Wildcats Welcome 2017 National Signing Day Class

2/1/2017 11:10:00 AM | Football

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern football welcomed 24 newcomers to the program on National Signing Day. Complete biographical information can be found below.

The Wildcats officially added 17 scholarship student-athletes, one graduate transfer and six preferred walk-ons on Wednesday, the first day that student-athletes enrolling for the fall could sign National Letters of Intent. The 24 newest 'Cats join early enrollees Sam Miller and Trey Pugh, both of whom enrolled at Northwestern for the winter quarter that began the first week of January.

"We're thrilled to officially welcome the newest members of our football family," said Dan & Susan Jones Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald. "Every year we work hard to identify young men that fit our program and our university, academically and athletically. This is a remarkably proud day for these Wildcats and their families, most of whom have been committed to Northwestern since last summer. We can't wait to get them on campus and continue building towards a Big Ten Championship."

The 26-man class will arrive in Evanston from all across the nation, led by five student-athletes each from Illinois, Ohio and Texas, three from Georgia and California, and one from Colorado, Kansas, Massachusetts, Nebraska and New York. The group, which includes ten signees on offense, 12 on defense and four on special teams, is headlined by four-star prospects Earnest Brown IV, Austin Hiller, Trevor Kent and Sam Miller.

Northwestern wrapped up the 2016 campaign with a 31-24 win over No. 23 Pittsburgh at Yankee Stadium in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The Wildcats are scheduled to return 17 of 22 starters from this year's squad, including All-Big Ten honorees Justin Jackson, Clayton Thorson, Garrett Dickerson, Solomon Vault and Tommy Doles on offense, as well as Godwin Igwebuike and Montre Hartage on defense.

Chicago's Big Ten Team kicks off the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, when Nevada comes to Ryan Field. Season ticket information is available at NUSports.com and by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
