EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern begins Big Ten play Thursday night with a contest against Minnesota at historic Beardsley Gym at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats enter conference competition with a 7-7 mark, most recently beating Eastern Illinois 74-40 before the holiday break. NU gave a typically strong defensive effort, limiting EIU to just 30 percent shooting from the field and holding an opponent under 50 points for the fifth time this season.
Northwestern allows just 60.6 points per game, the fourth-best mark in the Big Ten. Minnesota (11-2) gives up 69.3 points per game, while scoring nearly 88 per contest.

First-year guard Lindsey Pulliam led the way for the Wildcats in the non-conference, racking up 14.7 points per game, a number that ranks first among all Big Ten newcomers and 12th overall in the conference. Either Pulliam or sophomore Abi Scheid (13.1 points per game) have the led the team in scoring in 11 of 14 contests this season.
Northwestern leads the all-time series with Minnesota, 36-34. The Gophers won last season's only contest, 71-61, in Minneapolis. The Wildcats' last beat Minnesota, 79-73, in the 2016 Big Ten Tournament.
This is the final home game of 2017 for Chicago's Big Ten Team. The Wildcats return home to historic Beardsley Gym on Jan. 7, 2018, for Autism Awareness Day against Nebraska.
