NASHVILLE, Tenn. – First-year guard Lindsey Pulliam continued her torrid pace to the start of her college career, pouring in 16 points, but Northwestern dropped its first game of the season, losing to Chattanooga in the opening contest at the Music City Challenge Friday night.
Pulliam has reached double figures in scoring in four of her first five career games. She was 6-of-14 from the field and knocked down all four of her free throw attempts, running her season percentage to 95 percent, tops in the Big Ten.
The first year has led the team in scoring three times already and is averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game.
Junior forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah had eight points and six rebounds, and sophomore forward Abi Scheid added seven points and four boards. Senior guard Lydia Rohde knocked down both of her three-point attempts. Rohde is shooting 50 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc this season.
Kunaiyi-Akpanah's three offensive rebounds helped Northwestern to an 11-4 advantage on second chance points.
Chattanooga shot better (41 percent) than any Northwestern opponent has this season, leading the Mocs to a 61-44 win.
Chicago's Big Ten Team continues its run of three games in three days when it plays Auburn tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville.
