Chris and Doug Collins to be Profiled on Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel

EVANSTON, Ill. -- "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel", TV's most-honored sports journalism series, with a record 18 Sports Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Sports Journalism, will profile Sullivan-Ubben head men's basketball coach Chris Collins and his father, Doug, in a new episode that debuts Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. exclusively on HBO.
The show also is available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and affiliate portals.
In the feature titled Basketball Blood, correspondent Andrea Kremer gets father and son together at the start of Northwestern's new season to discuss the family's basketball journey, which is marked by remarkable peaks and valleys.
The Collins family is rich in basketball history. Doug Collins, 66, was the number-one overall pick in the 1973 NBA draft and played nearly a decade in Philadelphia, where he was a four-time All-Star, before embarking on a successful career as an NBA head coach, broadcaster and executive. His son Chris, 43, played four years at Duke University and later followed his father into coaching. In 2013, Chris landed his first head coaching job, at Northwestern University, and four years into his tenure led the team to its best finish since before World War II and first NCAA tournament berth ever, not to mention its first tournament win.
Northwestern secured its spot in the Tournament with a miraculous finish that was eerily similar to the worst moment of Doug's playing career, when the U.S. Olympic team lost in perhaps the most controversial game in basketball history at the 1972 Munich Games.
