EVANSTON, Ill. — The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN, for games ending October 28.
Northwestern redshirt first-year linebacker Paddy Fisher was named the FBS Defensive Player of the Week after being credited with 17 tackles (14 solo), two forced fumbles and two quarterback hurries in the Wildcats' triple-overtime win over No. 16 Michigan State.
Fisher set a career high with 14 solo tackles and came one tackle shy of his total career high of 18 set earlier this season at Duke. His 14 solo tackles versus the Spartans are tied with West Virginia's David Long for the most in a FBS game this season and his 73 tackles through eight games are the most in the country by a first-year player.
The Katy, Texas, native is one of just three players in the FBS this season to post two or more games with 17 plus tackles.
Fisher is the seventh Northwestern player (and fourth defensive honoree) to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004.
This is the 14th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
