Clem, Stahlschmidt Honored With Big Ten Weekly Awards

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern senior goalkeeper Lauren Clem and first-year forward Kayleigh Stahlschmidt were recognized Tuesday by the Big Ten for their efforts in leading Northwestern to a 1-0 win over Nebraska last Saturday.
Stahlschmidt scored the game's only goal, while Clem kept the Huskers off the board as Northwestern secured its third straight victory to move to 9-6-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the Big Ten, good for third place in the conference standings.
Clem was awarded Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after picking up her eighth shutout of the season and the 45th of her career. She ranks fifth in NCAA history in shutouts. Clem also ran her career saves total to 326 over the weekend, which is the second-most in Northwestern history. She ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 74 saves this season.
Clem and the Northwestern defense have pitched three shutouts in a row and six in the last nine matches.
Stahlschmidt earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors with her first career goal, which proved to be the game-winner against Nebraska. The first year from St. Charles, Missouri, scored on a deflection from junior Kayla Sharples in the 65th minute to put Northwestern on top for good.
Chicago's Big Ten Team plays at Michigan State Wednesday night at 5 p.m. in the regular season finale looking to lock up a top-four seed and home field advantage in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
