FINAL RESULTS
EVANSTON, Ill. — In a tightly contested meet Saturday morning at the Norris Aquatics Center, Northwestern women's swimming and diving team grabbed nine individual wins, and placed in the top two in all but two events against Georgia Tech.
While the Wildcats held the lead until the final event, the Yellow Jackets pulled ahead for a 153-147 victory to end the meet.
The 'Cats came out strong from the beginning, starting the meet off with a win by the 200 medley relay team of first years Calypso Sheridan, Sophie Angus, Ilektra Lebl and senior Mary Warren. They took the top spot with a time of 1:43.40.
Following the relay win, senior Sydney Modeas posted 10:23.20 to win the 1,000 free. Sophomore Irune Andres, who had set a new personal best time in the 1,000 free just the day before, created a new career record with a time of 10:26.01.
Northwestern continued to put up top numbers, with a second place finish in the next event by senior Anna Keane, who touched the wall in 1:51.29.
The 'Cats took the next four races by storm, putting a tally in the win column for each event. Sheridan won the 100 back in 55.52, followed by Angus taking the 100 breast for the second meet in a row with a time of 1:03.96. Northwestern went 1-2 in the 200 fly with junior Alex Grimes in first, followed by Lebl just .05 seconds after. To grab the fourth win, Warren set a new season-best in the 50 free, winning in 23.19.
The team took the top two spots again in the 200 back, this time with a win from Sheridan in 1:59.49, and second place finish by sophomore Nicole Aarts with a time of 2:02.97.
For the final win of the day, sophomore Krystal Lara beat out her competition with a time of 5:02.86 in the 500 free.
To close out the meet, the Wildcats put up three more second-place finishes. Grimes took second in in the 100 fly in 56.09, and Sheridan finished the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.10. Northwestern's 400 free relay team, consisting of Lara, Warren, Keane, and sophomore Malorie Han ended the day with a time of 3:28.72.
Junior Olivia Rosendahl, reigning platform national champion, continued to dominate the diving boards with a commanding 318.68 points to win the 3-meter event, and a score of 290.93 for a second-place finish in the 1-meter event. Junior diver Eryn Scannell followed close behind, taking third in the 1-meter with 276.75 points.
The 'Cats return to the pool next Friday in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, for a 3 p.m. meet against the host Fighting Illini and Rutgers.
