EVANSTON, Ill. — Former Northwestern soccer great Gerardo Alvarez will be inducted into the Marmion Academy Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Jan. 6.

Alvarez, a 2003 graduate of Marmion, was a three-year letterwinner in high school and remains the school's all-time career scoring leader with 90 goals and 48 assists.

During his time in Evanston (2003-06), Alvarez tallied 28 goals, including nine game-winners, and 24 assists for 80 points in 77 career games. He was a three-year captain for the Wildcats and ranks second all-time in program history in assists and is tied for second in points.

Alvarez, who head coach Tim Lenahan refers to as, "the most transformational player in Northwestern history," led the Big Ten in scoring his sophomore season with 33 points and was instrumental in helping the Wildcats to their first-ever NCAA appearance in 2004 and the program's NCAA Elite Eight run in 2006.

The Marmion Academy graduate finished his career with four goals and two assists in six NCAA tournament games, which included two game-winning goals during the team's 2006 run. He was named to the Northwestern Men's Soccer All-Decade Team in 2010.
