WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —
The Northwestern women's swimming and diving program got to test the waters of the 2017 Big Ten Championships with a Big Ten tri-dual meet at Purdue University Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Valerie Gruest Slowing posted three top-three finishes, senior Melissa Postoll finished second in the 400 IM and 200 back and sophomore diver Olivia Rosendahl finished third in the 1-meter and fourth in the platform competition.

Junior Mary Warren swam a season-best 23.28 in the 50 free to finish second.

The Wildcats fell to the 16th-ranked Boilermakers, 236-116, and Minnesota, 231-122.

Rosendahl, fresh off her second Big Ten Diver of the Week honor of the season, finished third in the 1-meter with a score of 292.10 before picking up fourth in the platform with a score of 267.90.

Gruest Slowing continued to prove she is one of the most dangerous swimmers in the conference despite being in just her first season with the 'Cats, finishing second in the 1,000 free and 500 free. She picked up a third-place finish in the 200 fly, just .13 seconds off the winner's pace. Senior Ellen Stello gave Chicago's Big Ten Team two of the top four spots in the 200 fly with a fourth-place time of 2:02.60.

Postoll continued her push for a strong finish to her Wildcats' career with second-place times in the 400 IM (4:23.21) and 200 back (2:00.63). She also picked up a fourth place finish in the 400 IM. Classmate Ellen Stello finished fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.68.

Sprint freestyler Annika Winsnes wrapped up the top performances by the 'Cats, finishing third in the 200 free in 1:49.73 and fourth in the 50 free at 23.71.

Northwestern will be off for the next two weeks as it trains to peak at the Big Ten Championships Feb. 15-18 at Purdue.
