SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- No. 8 Northwestern added another impressive day to its resume at the DeCicco Duals on Saturday at Notre Dame, going 4-1 against the competition.

The highlights of the duals included a win over a talented Wayne State squad and going toe-to-toe against No. 3 Notre Dame in a narrow 14-13 loss.

"I was really impressed by the consistency we brought to the different levels of competition," Head Coach Zach Moss said. "It was great to see us compete with Notre Dame and it gives us momentum heading into our NU Duals next weekend."

20 Wildcats finished the event with winning records and nine were undefeated. Freshman Aahana Chatterjee posted a breakout performance and went 9-0 on the epee squad.

Northwestern started the day with matchup against Wayne State, a team receiving votes in the top-ten coaches' poll. The 'Cats dropped a 4-5 result to one of the best foil groups in the country, but rebounded with dominant 7-2 and 9-0 performances in sabre and epee, respectively.

The #B1GCats rolled through their next two matches, outclassing Detroit, 27-0, and Florida, 26-1. The team brought that momentum into their heavily anticipated match against No. 3 Notre Dame. It came down to the last bout in epee, but the Wildcats barely lost 14-3.

Stephanie Chan made headlines in her foil matchup against Sabrina Massialas, one of the Fighting Irish's most talented fencers, an NCAA All-American and a candidate for the senior women's national team. Chan blanked Massialas 5-0 in a statement victory.

"Stephanie's victory was a nice moment for us," Moss said. "To go against the fencer ranked third in the country and to shut her out is an awesome accomplishment."

Northwestern finished the duals with a 23-4 victory over Lawrence. Abby Tartell finished the day with eight wins, joining Chatterjee as the only Wildcat with over six.

Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action next weekend on Saturday and Sunday in South Bend, Ind. as it hosts the NU Duals against some of the toughest competition in the country.
