Wildcats Come Up Just Short in Dual at Iowa, 156-144

IOWA CITY, Iowa —
The Northwestern women's swimming and diving program picked up seven individual victories in a dual versus Iowa Saturday afternoon, but the Hawkeyes won the 400 freestyle relay by two-tenths of a second to seal the meet, 156-144.

Freshman Valerie Gruest Slowing continued her stellar rookie campaign with victories in the 1,000 free (10:16.07), 200 fly (2:00.48) and 500 free (4:53.85). Sophomore Olivia Rosendahl won both the 1-meter (292.10) and platform diving events. Rosendahl claimed the platform with a Zone Standard and season-best score of 307.40. 

Junior Mary Warren picked up a win in the 50 free with a season-best time of 23.20 and senior Lacey Locke rounded out the first-place finishes for the 'Cats with a win in the 200 back in 2:00.22.

In addition to her win in the 200 back, Locke picked up a second-place finish in both the 100 back (56.21). 

Senior Melissa Postoll helped the 'Cats go 1-2 with a second-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.68.

Chicago's Big Ten Team opened strong with a 1-2-3 finish in the 1,000 free by Gruest Slowing, Sydney Modeas (10:17.79) and Lauren Abruzzo (10:21.73).

Annika Winsnes started a strong day in the sprints with a second-place finish in the 200 free (1:51.07), before another runner-up performance in the 100 free (51.13). She capped her day with a third-place finish in the 50 free (23.96) to go 1-2 with Warren. 

Senior Ellen Stello had a trio of top-3 finishes, finishing just .01 seconds behind Gruest Slowing in the 200 fly before finishing third in the 500 free (5:01.79) and 200 IM (2:06.34). 

Sophomore Peyton Greenberg also continued her strong season as the Wildcats' top breastroker with third-place finishes in the 100 (1:06.59) and 200 (2:20.39). 

The Wildcats will be back in action next weekend when they travel to West Lafayette to take on Purdue and Minnesota in a Big Ten tri-dual. The action will start Friday at 5 p.m. and continue Saturday at 10 a.m.
