EVANSTON, Ill. — The 2016 college football season is here.
Coming off a 10-3 season and their second New Year's Day bowl appearance in the last four years, the Northwestern Wildcats will open play Saturday, Sept. 3, at Ryan Field against Mid-American Conference West Division favorite Western Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on ESPNU with Clay Matvick and Dusty Dvoracek. The game will also be available on the WatchESPN app and ESPN3.
As always, the game will also be broadcast on WGN 720 with the voice of the Wildcats Dave Eanet. Former Wildcats Dan Persa (analyst) and Jeff Budzien (sideline) will join Eanet for the season opener as regulars Ted Albrecth and Adam Hoge are unavailable.

OUTSIDE THREAT
WMU senior wide receiver Corey Davis was recently named a CBS Preseason All-American. He was the 2013 MAC Freshman of the Year and is just 400 yards shy of becoming the Mid-American Conference's all-time leading receiver. He enters his senior season as the leading active receiver in the country with 3,785 yards and has 33 career touchdowns.
WESTERN GROUND GAME
The Broncos' backfield includes the last two MAC Freshmen of the Year in sophomore Jamauri Bogan (2015) and junior Jarvion Franklin (2014). The two combined to rush for 1,786 yards and 21 touchdowns last season.
THREE YEARS AGO...
...the Wildcats defeated the Broncos at Ryan Field in the first-ever meeting between the two schools, 38-17. Northwestern used 24 second-quarter points to overcome a scoreless first quarter with the brunt of their offensive damage coming in the form of 332 yards on the ground.
