EVANSTON, Ill. -- Redshirt sophomore Katie Yeatts scored a first-half goal to lead Northwestern past Iowa 1-0 in a preseason matchup between the teams Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
Yeatts tallied the lone goal of the match with 3:39 remaining in the opening half, taking a long feed from Dominique Masters. In alone on Iowa goalkeeper Alexandra Pecora, Yeatts was able to find the back of the cage to put the Wildcats in front.
The tally was all that Northwestern would need. Lindsay von der Luft played the first half in goal while Annie Kalfas played the second as the 'Cats notched the shutout.
The teams also played an overtime session following the completion of regulation. NU earned a penalty corner in the second minute of action and converted as Eva van Agt deflected Isabel Flens' hit from just inside the top of the circle to end the sudden-victory period.
NU and Iowa also participated in a shootout with the Hawkeyes out-scoring the Wildcats, 3-2. Pascale Massey and Elena Curley notched shootout goals for Northwestern.
The Wildcats open their 2016 regular season Friday when they take on Boston University in Durham, New Hampshire.
