EVANSTON, Ill. – Single-game tickets for Northwestern football's seven 2016 contests at Ryan Field will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, August 2, at 9 a.m. Tickets for the Wildcats Big Ten opener against Nebraska on Sept. 24 will be subject to the innovative 'Purple Pricing' system.
Debuted during the 2012-13 Northwestern basketball season in conjunction with Northwestern economics professor Jeff Ely and Kellogg School economist Sandeep Baliga, 'Purple Pricing' is a version of a Dutch Auction that ensures all fans pay the lowest market price.
Beginning on Tuesday, fans can visit NUPurplePricing.com and either secure tickets for the Sept. 24 matchup with the Cornhuskers immediately at the posted price, or bid a lower value in the hope the price will decrease. All fans will pay the same low price, so there is no benefit to waiting to claim the best possible seats. Those who choose to buy at a higher price will be refunded the difference if the price decreases.
Wildcats fans can purchase single-game tickets to Northwestern's six other regular-season contests immediately on Tuesday by calling 888-GO-PURPLE (888-467-8775) or at NUSports.com. Season tickets, the only way to guarantee the best seats at Ryan Field, are currently on sale here.
The 2016 season begins on Saturday, Sept. 3 when preseason Mid-American Conference favorite Western Michigan University comes to Ryan Field for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff, the first of four straight home tilts to open the campaign.
The following week Northwestern welcomes in-state foe Illinois State to Evanston at 2:30 p.m. CT, before back-to-back games under the lights in prime time. The Wildcats host Duke on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. CT in a rematch of last season's Northwestern win in Durham over the Blue Devils. On Sept. 24 the 'Cats kick off their first-ever nine-game Big Ten Conference slate when Nebraska comes to Ryan Field for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff.
The Wildcats lone home game during the month of October is on Oct. 22 when Indiana comes to Evanston during Homecoming festivities, the Hoosiers first visit to Ryan Field since 2012 when the 'Cats piled up a program-record 704 yards of total offense.
Northwestern kicks off the season's home stretch on Nov. 5 when they welcome the Wisconsin Badgers in a Big Ten West showdown, and the Wildcats wrap up the regular-season on Senior Day at Ryan Field on Nov. 26 against Illinois.
The Wildcats won a program-record ten games during the 2015 season, a campaign in which they knocked off five eventual bowl champions, including the Pac-12 and Rose Bowl champion Stanford Cardinal. Junior running back Justin Jackson and junior linebacker Anthony Walker Jr., were two of ten student-athletes identified last week as Preseason Big Ten Players to Watch by Conference media.
