Northwestern Coaches Sweep ITA Midwest Region Awards

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern head coach Arvid Swan was named the ITA Midwest Region Coach of the Year and associate head coach Chris Klingemann earned the region's Assistant Coach of the Year honor, the organization announced Monday.
The Wildcats are in the midst of the best season in program history. The team's 25 wins are a record, along with its .862 (25-4) winning percentage. Northwestern went 10-1 in conference play and enters the NCAA tournament as the No. 14 overall seed.
Chicago's Big Ten Team reached as high as No. 7 in the national rankings this season and won 13 matches against top-50 opponents.
Three student-athletes were named First-Team All-Big Ten this season, led by Konrad Zieba's unanimous selection. Sam Shropshire and Strong Kirchheimer also made the team. Kirchheimer is having one of the best individual seasons in school history with a 28-3 record.
Swan and Klingemann have spent the past five seasons building one the nation's premier teams. Northwestern has made five consecutive NCAA tournaments and has posted four straight 20-win seasons. The Wildcats have posted a 104-46 record in that span.
The award is the second of Swan's career after previously earning coach of the year honors in 2014.
National awards will be announced Tuesday, May 24.
Northwestern opens the 2016 NCAA tournament at home with a first-round match against Valparaiso on Saturday, May 14 at 1 p.m. at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
