
'Cats Welcome Purdue, Indiana to Continue Homestand

EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 38 Northwestern continues its homestand this weekend as it welcomes Purdue and No. 68 Indiana to Evanston. Both matches are slated to be played indoors at Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats enter play this weekend tied for first place in the Big Ten at 5-0 alongside Michigan and Ohio State. Northwestern (7-8 overall) remained undefeated in conference play by defeating visiting Nebraska, 5-2, and Iowa, 7-0, last Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
NU has a pair of singles players and two doubles teams ranked by the ITA. In singles, redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp leads the way with a No. 54 national ranking while sophomore Erin Larner is No. 91. Lipp and Alex Chatt are the Wildcats' top-ranked doubles team, coming in at No. 25 while Larner pairs with senior Alicia Barnett for a No. 47 ranking.
Purdue (9-9, 2-3 B1G) snapped a three-match losing streak by defeating rival Indiana 6-1 last Saturday in Bloomington. It was the team's third win over a ranked opponent this season. The Boilermakers are paced by the doubles team of Nicole Robinson and Andjela Djokovic who debuted in the ITA rankings at No. 60 this week. Robinson also plays in the top spot in Purdue's singles lineup.
Indiana (13-6, 3-2) travels to Illinois on Friday prior to facing the Wildcats. The Hoosiers had won four of their last five matches prior to its home loss to Purdue. Junior Paula Gutierrez leads the team with a No. 90 national ranking in singles. She was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week on March 29. Sarah McLean has a 15-3 record in dual matches this season while playing primarily at the No. 3 spot.
