EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern will play the first of four-straight home games on Thursday when it hosts Big Ten foe Michigan at 6 p.m.
The Wildcats (4-6) and Wolverines (5-7) will play in front of a national audience on the Big Ten Network as the BTN Women's Lacrosse Game of the Week. The Wildcats are 3-1 at home this season and have won 113 of their last 122 games on the shores of Lake Michigan.
READ, SET... DRAW!
Sophomore Shelby Fredericks continues to be one of the top draw takers in the country as she enters Thursday's contest against Michigan ranked No. 8 in the country with 5.6 draw controls per game. Fredericks has recorded a career-high 10 draw controls twice in the last three games and has 46 draw controls in the last six games (7.6/gm).
ON THE ATTACK
Fredericks has also shown off her offensive skill set since being held without a point in the season opener. She has 20 points (12g/8a) during a career-long nine-game point streak that includes eight multi-point games. She is just six points shy of eclipsing her total from her freshman season with at least seven games remaining on the schedule.
CENTURY MARK
Senior attacker Kaleigh Craig became the latest Northwestern Wildcat to eclipse the 100-career goal plateau when she scored a season-high four goals at No. 16 Penn. Craig is the Wildcats' leader with 22 goals this season and also leads the team with 28 points, five free-position goals and is tied for the team lead with a career-high 15 ground balls.
BACK TO FORM
After a pair of injuries shortened two season, redshirt junior captain Christina Esposito has returned to her attacking form in 2016. Esposito scored a career-high four goals at No. 16 Penn last weekend and already has career highs for a season in goals (13), assists (10), points (23), shots (37), ground balls (9) and caused turnovers (9). She enters Thursday with a career-long six-game point streak, recording 16 points during the stretch.
STONE WALLED
Freshman Mallory Weisse was named the Big Ten Freshman and Defensive Player of the Week after making a season-high 10 stops and corralling a season-high six ground balls. She followed that performance up with her fourth 10-save effort of the year against No. 1 Maryland, making eight saves and limiting the Terps to just one goal over the final 24 minutes of the first half. Weisse leads the Big Ten with 74 saves.
IRON SHARPENS IRON
The Wildcats have played the toughest schedule in the country to this point and will continue to do so moving forward. The 'Cats' have the No. 1 strength of schedule according to the NCAA, having already played eight games against ranked opponents with four in their remaining six games.
250 IN SIGHT
Head Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller moved one victory closer to number 250 in her career with the 'Cats' 11-6 win over Colorado. Amonte Hiller enters Thursday's contest with a 247-53 career record (.823 winning percentage) and is 3-0 against Michigan.
