Tangkamolprasert A Perfect 3-0 In Match Play At Liz Murphey Classic

4/3/2016 8:11:00 PM | Women's Golf

ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Suchaya Tangkamolprasert went 3-0 in match play competition over 36 hours this weekend at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, hosted by the University of Georgia. The No. 4 Wildcats wrapped up the weekend in sixth place in an elite field after finishing all-square with Purdue in Sunday's fifth-place match but losing a tiebreaker.

Tangkamolprasert defeated Linn Anderson of Purdue 2-up on Sunday to wrap an exceptional weekend of heads-up competition. She edged Southern California's Amy Lee 2-and-1 in Saturday's opening match, and dominated the course in a 7-and-6 win over Josee Doyon of No. 12 Kent State in the afternoon.

The Bangkok native earned First Team All-Big Ten and WGCA All-America Honorable Mention honors last season, a campaign where she recorded the lowest single-season scoring average in program history. Tangkamolprasert is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Hannah Kim took care of Purdue's Marta Martin, who finished fifth at last year's Big Ten Championships, 2-and-1 in Sunday's final match.

This weekend the Wildcats will compete in their final tournament of the regular season, the Ping ASU Invitational in Tempe, Arizona. Competition begins on Friday, April 8.

The University of Georgia Golf Course is a Par-72, 6,307-yards layout, one that Northwestern navigated expertly two years ago in setting a tournament scoring record with an 11-under 277 at the 2014 event.

The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is one of the oldest continuous sporting events in all of women's intercollegiate athletics. The tournament began in 1973 as the Georgia Invitational before becoming the Women's Southern Intercollegiate Championship from 1977-94. In 1995 the event was named in honor of Liz Murphey, UGA's Hall of Fame golf coach.

Two years ago the LMCC moved to a combined stroke play/match play format in advance of a similar move by the NCAA Championships. The event began with 18 holes of stroke play on Friday, with the team scores used to seed two brackets of match play competition on Saturday and Sunday.
