Wildcats Open B1G Tournament Friday

2016 Big Ten Tournament Bracket
EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern starts play in the Big Ten Tournament Friday after earning the No. 2 seed and a first round bye.
The Wildcats travel to Minnesota and the Baseline Tennis Center for the tournament and will take on the winner of No. 7 Purdue and No. 10 Minnesota at 2 p.m. on Friday.
The semifinals are set for Saturday afternoon and the finals will take place Sunday at noon.
Last Time Out
Northwestern capped its historic season with a road win over No. 39 Penn State last weekend. The win was the 24th of the season for the Wildcats, the most in program history. It also clinched a second place Big Ten regular season finish, the best since 1990, when they won the conference outright.

Northwestern moved up a spot to No. 13 in the ITA national rankings this week. Konrad Zieba is No. 20 after a 21-7 season, in which he beat 14 ranked opponents. No. 40 Sam Shropshire wrapped up a perfect 7-0 Big Ten season, and No. 75 Strong Kirchheimer is in the midst of one of the best seasons in school history with a 26-3 record. His .897 winning percentage ranks second at Northwestern for a single season.
History
Northwestern will face either Purdue or Minnesota in the first round. They beat both teams this year - 4-2 over Purdue and 4-0 over Minnesota. Northwestern and Minnesota have a tightly contested history, with the Golden Gophers narrowly leading the all-time record 51-49-1, while Northwestern has the better of Purdue with a 67-21-2 record.
Last year at the Big Ten Tournament, the Wildcats beat Indiana, 4-1, before falling to eventual champion Illinois 4-0. Northwestern has won at least one tournament match every year since 2011.
