Three #B1GCats In Top-25 In Final Tuneup For Big Ten Championships

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sophomore Hannah Kim and freshmen Stephanie Lau and Janet Mao all earned Top-25 finishes on Sunday at the PING/ASU Invitational, the No. 4 Wildcats final event before the 2016 Big Ten Championships.

Kim was Northwestern's top finisher in Tempe, earning a share of 17th place. Saturday's second round was a highlight for the sophomore, who at one point birdied five consecutive holes, Nos. 16, 17, 18, 1 and 2, on her way to a 2-under 70. The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year will likely head into the Conference Championships as the top-rated player in the field according to Golfstat.
 
Saturday's second round was also a highlight for Lau, who carded the best round of her young college career, a 6-under 66. She opened on the back nine and birdied Nos. 10, 11, 12, 14 and 16 to start, and added two more on the front at Nos. 2 and 9.
 
Mao earned the best finish of her college career by securing a share of 22nd on Sunday. The rookie was the top-placing finisher on the leaderboard among players competing as individuals, and a second-round 70 equaled the best round of her season
 
As a team, Northwestern finished in a tie for eighth place.
 
The Wildcats will take a week off before heading to the 2016 Big Ten Championships at The Fort Golf Resort on April 22 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the site of Northwestern's Big Ten team title, and Sarah Cho's individual championship, a year ago.

The 2016 PING/ASU Invitational field featured three of the Top-4 teams in the nation according to this weeks' Golfstat rankings in No. 1 Alabama, No. 3 UCLA and the No. 4 Wildcats. The leaderboard will include four more ranked in the Top-20 in No. 10 Arizona, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 13 Washington and No 17 UNLV.
 
The competition was hosted at ASU Karsten Golf Course, a Pete Dye design (Par-72, 6,337 yards) that has been the home of the Sun Devils since opening in 1989.
