ITHACA, N.Y. – Northwestern won its fourth straight with a 4-1 win at No. 60 Cornell Sunday afternoon.
The 21st-ranked Wildcats improved to 7-1 overall with the win and picked up their third weekend sweep in the process.
"The guys competed well throughout the weekend against two quality opponents," head coach Arvid Swan said. "We are excited to get back to Evanston and prepare for Saturday's match against Kentucky."
Once again, Chicago's Big Ten Team made quick work of the opposition in doubles. Sam Shrosphire and Konrad Zieba won a 6-4 decision at No. 2 and were followed by Alp Horoz and Mihir Kumar at No. 3, who won 6-3 to clinch the match's first point for Northwestern.
No. 55 Strong Kirchheimer wasted little time in putting the Wildcats up 2-0 with his 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Kirchheimer has won all six matches he has played in the 2016 dual season.
Alp Horoz made it 3-0 Wildcats with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5. Cornell got on the board with a win at No. 4, but freshman Ben Vandixhorn finished the match off with a straight-set decision at No. 6.
Both No. 16 Konrad Zieba and No. 50 Sam Shropshire held third-set leads on their respective courts when the matches went unfinished.
