Northwestern Finishes Eighth at Conference Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Northwestern's men's swimming and diving team earned an eighth place finish at the 2016 Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, which were hosted at Purdue's Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
Michigan placed first at the conference meet, while Indiana and Ohio State rounded out the top three.
Tyler Lis swam the 200 back early on in the evening and earned a fifth-place finish in the B Final, which was good enough for 13th overall. Lis swam the finals in 1:44.74.
Andy Jovanovic also participated in the 200 back on Saturday night. His C Finals' time of 1:44.60 was the fastest any Northwestern swimmer has finished the event this season.
Will Hofstadter and Justin Hanson each posted a top-team time in the 200 breast and 200 fly, respectively. Hofstadter swam the 200 breast in 2:00.34, while Hanson posted a time of 1:48.23 in the 200 fly. Both swimmers were the lone Northwestern representative in each event.
Andrew Cramer scored 14 points for Northwestern when he earned a score of 321.45 in the platform diving event.
Freshman Carter Page placed 14th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:42.71, which helped Northwestern pick up 13 points.
The evening closed with the 400-yard freestyle relay. Almog Olshtein, Jovanovic, Anthony Marcantonio and Gage Kohner teamed up to place seventh in the event with a time of 2:56.29, which was the fastest time Northwestern has posted this season.
Stephen Shull was a recipient of the Big Ten Conference Sportsmanship Award.
