LAST YEAR'S CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 'Cats came out with a bang at last year's Championships, breaking a school record in the very first event (200 medley relay). More records fell on day one, as Annika Winsnes (Singapore/United World College) led off the 800 free relay with a 'B' cut with her 200 free split time.

Other NCAA 'B' cuts were met at the Championships, as Mary Warren (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) with a time of 22.86 in the prelims on the second day. The Wildcats also grabbed a 'B' cut in the 200 free relay.

Winsnes would proceed to top her time in the 200 free from day one when she participated in the individual event. On day three, Ellen Stello became the second-fastest Wildcat swimmer in the 400 IM with her finals performance of 4:13.44.

In the final day, Sydney Modeas (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) became the eighth-fastest NU swimmer in the 1,650 free with her 'B' qualifying time of 16:30.53.

In all, the Wildcats took home a 10th place finish in the Big Ten Championships, largely because the squad was without divers because of illness and injury.

WILDCAT HISTORY
The last Northwestern individual champion at Big Tens came in 2008, when Andrea Hupman took the title in both the 100 and 200 free.

The 'Cats have had some prolific outputs at the Championships. In 2000, Northwestern swimmers were champions in six different events, including Amy Balcerzak, who won both the 100 and 200 back for NU.

Northwestern has won 56 individual championships at Big Tens in school history, including 38 swimmers, 17 relay teams, and one diver.

B1G TIME RANKINGS
Seven schools from the Big Ten are on CSCAA's Top 25 rankings, including Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Purdue, Penn State, Minnesota and Ohio State. Three others, including Northwestern, are on the Top 50 rankings from CollegeSwimming.com, with Iowa and Nebraska joining the 'Cats.

THE SEASON SO FAR
Four Wildcat swimmers have notched NCAA 'B' cuts in five different events so far this season. Both Annika Winsnes and Lacey Locke (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) have done so in two separate events, the 100 and 200 free, and the 100 and 200 back, respectively. Winsnes is the highest-seeded Northwestern swimmer at Big Tens, as she is slotted sixth in the 100 free. She's also seeded 13th in the 200 free for the Championships.  Locke is also ranked highly, as she is in the ninth spot in the 200 back.

Mary Warren has been dominant in the 50 free this season. She has earned a pair of NCAA 'B' qualifications and has finished in first place every time out. She has a team-best time of 22.94 in the event and is seeded 14th in the event.

In the 200 back, Melissa Postoll (Acworth, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) posted a 'B' cut time of 1:58.83 at the TYR Invitational. One of the Wildcats' most versatile this swimmers this season, Postoll is also the second-fastest NU swimmer in the 100 back, 200 IM and 400 IM.

Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) has notched NCAA Zone Diving standards in all three events (1-meter, 3-meter and platform). Eryn Scannell (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc Community) has also reached the mark from the 1-meter springboard.

Rosendahl also broke a Norris Aquatics Center pool record from the 1-meter springboard, knocking off a record that had stood for 15 years. This year's squad also recorded some more changes to the history books, as Winsnes' 100 free relay leg at the TYR Invitational also broke a pool record in Evanston.

In her first season with the Wildcats, freshman Peyton Greenberg (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) etched her name in the record books, already becoming the ninth-fastest swimmer in the 200 breast with her 2:17.01 swim at the TYR Invitational.

Chicago's Big Ten Team finished with an 8-4 record in dual meet action and picked up a first-place spot at the TYR Invitational in December.
