Getting to Know: Sam Shropshire

The Northwestern men's tennis team is off to a 7-1 start to the 2016 season and is ranked No. 21 in the country by the ITA. Much of that success can be attributed to a lineup of veteran players, including junior Sam Shropshire. The two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection and 2014 Big Ten Freshman of the Year is off to an 8-4 start in singles this year and is ranked No. 47. NUsports.com caught up with Shropshire to find the answers to questions like who his dream doubles partner is, who his favorite Northwestern student-athlete is and more in this edition of "Getting to Know."
NUsports: If you had to play a sport besides tennis, what would it be?
Sam Shropshire: "Golf"
What was your first impression of Northwestern?
"The people were most impressive for me. The coaches, staff, etc. all really want you to succeed."
What is your favorite place on campus or in Evanston?
"Henry Crown Sports Pavilion"
If you could play doubles with anyone in the world (besides your normal doubles partner), who would it be and why?
"Alex Pasareanu, because of his deadly run around forehand return."
Better superpower: Invisibility or flying?
"Flying"
What has been your most memorable Northwestern experience?
"Every day, road trip and match with my team is memorable."
Who got you interested in tennis?
"My mother."
What has been your favorite class at Northwestern?
"Intro to Philosophy"
What is the craziest match you've been involved in?
"Every college tennis match is crazier than the next."
