The 'Cats opened the game cold, shooting just 27 percent in the first quarter and trailed 19-15 after the first 10 minutes, but that trend didn't last long. Three straight three-pointers by Abi Scheid, Deary and Coffey to begin the 2nd quarter put the 'Cats up 21-19.
It was the first three-point make of Scheid's young career.
The game stayed tight throughout the second quarter, and Santa Clara took a 39-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Northwestern opened it up in the second half, outscoring the Broncos, 51-36, to walk away with the win.
Chicago's Big Ten Team now heads to Spokane, Wash. for a Monday night showdown with Gonzaga. Both the Wildcats and Bulldogs are receiving votes in the AP and Coaches Top-25 polls.
