Northwestern travels to Milwaukee tomorrow for just its second road trip of the year to face the Panthers on Sunday, Dec. 11. Sunday's game will be streamed live on ESPN3. Tip is slated for noon.
NU is looking for its fourth win in the all time series with the Panthers as the Wildcats own the all-time series, 4-3.
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN
Northwestern is off to an impressive 7-1 start to the young season with signature wins over then-No. 16 Florida and Virginia in the 2016 edition of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Sunday's matchup against Milwaukee will be the 'Cats second trip away from Welsh-Ryan Arena this year.
Reigning Big Ten Player of the Week Nia Coffey leads Chicago's Big Ten Team with 22.2 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. She is the only player in country averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. Coffey pulled down 12 rebounds in just 22 minutes against Chicago State to become Northwestern's all-time leading rebounder, previously held by NU legend Anucha Browne. With 14 points against the Cougars, Coffey has scored in double-digits in 56-straight games, dating back to her sophomore year to tie another Browne record. The senior forward is looking for one more game in double figures for the longest streak in Northwestern history.
Fellow captains Ashley Deary and Christen Inman join Coffey in double digits, averaging 11 points per game apiece. Deary, who joined the 1,000-career point club this year, is just 34 steals away from breaking the Big Ten all-time steals record. She leads the conference and ranks 14th in the country in steals per game (3.5 spg), and is the NCAA's active career steals and assists leader.
SCOUTING MILWAUKEE
The Panthers are also off to a hot start with a 7-1 overall record, the squad's best start through seven games since becoming a Division I program. Milwaukee's only lost of the year came on the road at Northern Illinois where the Panthers lost 114-104.
Milwaukee is led by Steph Kostowicz and Jenny Lindner who are averaging 17.8 and 17 points per game, respectively. As a team, the Panthers are shooting 43.5 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from long range and 79.1 percent from the charity stripe. Kostowicz ranks seventh in the country with five double-doubles on the year.
