Austin Carr Named Burlsworth Trophy Semifinalist

EVANSTON, Ill. — Senior wide receiver Austin Carr has been name a semifinalist for the 2016 Burlsworth Trophy.
The Burlsworth Trophy selection committee and the Spingdale Rotary Club announced the top 10 semifinalists Tuesday. The Burlsworth Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on.
He did not receive a single scholarship offer out of high school and was awarded a scholarship by Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald in 2015.

Fans will be allowed to vote for their favorite player via the "GREATER" Fan Vote beginning today, Nov. 8 at 2:00 PM CST. Fans are limited to one vote per day, and the voting for the semifinalist round will conclude on Nov. 13 at midnight CST. Voting can be accessed at www.burlsworthtrophy.com and will begin with the top 10 semi-finalists and continue as the selection committee announces the top three Burlsworth Trophy finalists on Nov. 15th. Finalists will be honored and the winner of the 2016 Burlsworth Trophy announced Dec. 5th at a banquet in Springdale, Ark., sponsored by the Springdale Rotary Club.
Carr leads the Big Ten in every receiving category and ranks 10th in the country with 1,010 yards through nine games. He is seventh in the country with 10 touchdowns and had a touchdown catch in a Northwestern-record six-straight games earlier this season. The Benecia, California, native has eclipsed 125 yards receiving in six games and caught eight passes for a career-high 158 yards against Ohio State. His 10 touchdown catches this season are the third most in program history and his 1,010 receiving yards rank fifth in school history.He did not receive a single scholarship offer out of high school and was awarded a scholarship by Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald in 2015.
