Wildcats Pick Up Win at Elite Invitational

Philadelphia, Pa. – No. 7 Northwestern competed in its first duals of the season at the Elite Invitational hosted by Penn on Saturday against some of the top teams in the country.

The Wildcats faced No. 2 Columbia, No. 3 Princeton, No. 6 Ohio State, Johns Hopkins and Yale.

Northwestern picked up a win against Johns Hopkins with a 5-4 sabre victory, a 6-3 decision in foil and a 7-2 win in epee. Anna Tolley went a perfect 3-0 in the dual.

In the day's first dual against the Buckeyes, NU won sabre, 5-4, thanks to a 3-0 performance from Maddy Curzon, before ultimately falling short in the match, 16-11.

Northwestern battled second ranked Columbia in the third meet but fell 16-11. The foil group won its bouts, 6-3, behind 2-1 showings from Stephanie Chan, Sharon Chen, and Alexandra Banin.

Yale won the fourth dual meet 16-11 despite another valiant effort from the Wildcats, who earned four points in both the sabre and foil groups. Cindy Oh was a perfect 3-0, while Katie Van Riper and Stella Pointeau were both 2-1.

Princeton took the fifth dual meet 19-8 with the 'Cats winning foil, 5-4.

Chen, Curzon and Tolley each went 6-3 on the day, while Chan and Pointeau were both 5-4.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 13, when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for the Vassar Invitational.
