Lumpkin Nominated to NABC Good Works Team

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern senior forward Sanjay Lumpkin is a nominee for the 2017 Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Good Works Team®, the NABC announced Tuesday.
The esteemed award honors an outstanding group of student-athletes who represent the sport's finest in the areas of community service and leadership among their peers. Finalists will be announced in February.
Lumpkin has been active in the community ever since he stepped on campus, annually participating in philanthropic events such as Relay for Life and Misericordia Candy Days, while also making yearly visits to the Illinois Youth Center, a correctional facility in Chicago.
The Wayzata, Minnesota, native has also made an impact in Evanston's youth community. Lumpkin has dedicated his time and effort at the Kits, Cats and Kids Block Party in addition to being a regular visitor to Y.O.U., a local after-school program where he reads to children, answers questions and plays basketball.
Lumpkin, who received a bachelor's degree in learning and organizational change from Northwestern in June, also was recognized by the NABC this past summer for his performance in the classroom. The three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree was selected to the NABC's Honors Court. To receive the honor, an individual must be a junior or senior academically and sport a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2015-16 academic year. It was the second straight year that he earned the recognition.
A team captain this season, Lumpkin is currently pursuing his master's degree in sports administration.
