John Moten IV Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. — Following his second 100-yard performance of the season, redshirt freshman running back John Moten IV has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. 

Moten carried the ball 14 times for a career-high 128 yards and scored the first two touchdowns of his career in the Wildcats' 42-21 win over rival Illinois. The St. Louis, Missouri, native scored his first career touchdown on a nine-yard carry in the first quarter to give the 'Cats a 7-0 lead and extended the lead to 14-0 with a career-long 43-yard scamper later in the quarter for his second score of the game. 

He had 85 rushing yards in the first quarter alone and finished the game averaging 9.1 yards per carry. 

This marks Moten's second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor this season. He shared the plaudit following his first career 100-yard performance in which he rushed for 119 yards on 16 attempts in a 45-17 win over Purdue. 

The Wildcats picked up their sixth win of the season over Illinois to become bowl eligible for the 13th time in program history. Chicago's Big Ten Team will find out its destination on Sunday, December 4.
