EVANSTON, Ill. – The 2016 volleyball season comes to a close for Northwestern this weekend with matches at Penn State and Rutgers.
The Wildcats play the 15th-ranked Nittany Lions on Friday at 6 p.m. before heading to Piscataway, N.J. to match up with Rutgers at 6 p.m.
Both matches will be streamed live on BTN Plus. Links to video and live scoring can be found in the table above.
"ATTACK, 11…KILL"
Maddie Slater is hitting .307 for her career, which ranks second all-time in Northwestern history. Last season, her .344 hitting percentage was the fourth highest total. She is hitting .300 this year.
SYMONE SLAM
Junior outside hitter Symone Abbott has been an important offensive weapon for the Wildcats in 2016. She is averaging 4.08 kills per set, which ranks third in the Big Ten. Her mark currently ranks eighth in program single-season history. The program record is 4.48.
Abbott recorded her 1,000th career kill in the third set against Iowa on Oct. 1, becoming the 22nd player in Wildcats' history to reach the milestone. She is now at 1,152. The program record is 1,797, set by Stephanie Holthus from 2010-13.
SETTING FOR SUCCESS
Junior setter Taylor Tashima takes the lead on the Wildcats' strong offensive attack. Tashima has 946 assists in 30 matches, good for 8.92 per set. That number ranks 11th in the Big Ten. 10 Wildcats other than Tashima have recorded kills this season with five notching more than 100 this season.
