EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern senior Strong Kirchheimer is one of three collegiate men's players picked to represent the United States at the 2016 Master'U BNP Paribas International Collegiate Team Competition, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced Tuesday.
The world competition will take place December 1-4 in Marcq-en-Baroeul, France.
"Strong has worked so hard for this opportunity," Northwestern head coach Arvid Swan said. "We are honored that the USTA has selected Strong to be a part of the team. We look forward to seeing him and the team compete."
The United States has won five straight competitions and will be represented this year by Kirchheimer, Christopher Eubanks (Georgia Tech) and Tom Fawcett (Stanford) on the men's side and Francesca Di Lorenzo (Ohio State), Hayley Carter (North Carolina) and Ena Shibahara (UCLA) on the women's side.
The U.S. team will be led by Boise State men's coach Greg Patton and Ohio State women's coach Melissa Schaub and will compete against teams from Belgium, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and Russia.
"Master'U is effectively the Davis Cup and Fed Cup of collegiate tennis," USTA Collegiate Tennis Director Stephen Amritraj said. "We are excited to have another strong group of players on this year's 'Team USA,' going for a 'six-peat.'"
Each team match consists of two men's and two women's singles matches, one women's and one men's doubles match and a mixed doubles match. Complete results from all three days can be found on the Master'U BNP Paribas website.
